Curriculum - Dermatology. The missions/goals of this program are to develop clinical, technical, professional attitudinal skills necessary to provide the best possible care for patients as specialists in Dermatology. Residents should exhibit professionalism and ethical behavior as well as a concerned, caring attitude for their patients in the management and diagnosis of diseases of hair, nails, and skin. Principles of diagnosis and treatment are taught progressively throughout the 3 years of training. The program emphasizes clinical care in multiple practice settings to provide an in- depth understanding of all aspects of dermatologic conditions, including the development of pathological and surgical skills required for the practice of the specialty. The following is an example of a regular weekly schedule for a PGY2 or PGY3: 6 general dermatology continuity clinics; 1 pediatric dermatology continuity clinic; 1 minor surgery clinic; 1 half- day for dermatopathology signouts or lectures; 1 half- days for didactics. PGY4 residents have Mohs surgery 1- 3 half- days/week. There will be monthly Grand Rounds and dermatopathology conferences. Residents are expected to attend the monthly Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatological Society meetings which run from September through May.
